I am not one to get atop a soap box and preach. I have my views which I freely share. And I try at times to understand you have yours (this of course being when yours are not directly aligned with mine). Regardless, I might question yours to death, but never try to persuade you otherwise. With that said, I will now provide a disclaimer stating the prior statement is in effect about 90% of the time. This entry is going to fall into that other 10%.
Tonight I went to the Boston Barack Obama rally held in Boston Common. I left there consumed by each emotion stirring tag line carefully planned by political speech writers. Duval Patrick the MA governor introducted Barack and left one feeling that no other choice of candidate would suffice. Duval managed to leave you questioning your convictions and how those convictions should affect you choice for president. This of course paired nicely with all Barack had to talk on, for nearly 40 minutes he managed to confront the broken systems of health-care, education both primary and college, working within the political machine, and the war. Everything he talked on was in the context of Gandhi’s famous words “Be the change you want to see in the world” And without entering into the realm of cheesy Barack was able to make you feel that your involvement in any process could contribute to great change.
The comment I found most striking was in regards to our current political system, and how ones ability to manipulate that systems doesn’t necessarily reveal competence. Instead looking at how one can change or improve a broken system is more a sign of competence than how one finagles their way around, making due within its existing framework. AMAZING!
So from the top of the soap box, instead of just from behind the Obama sign in my apartment window. I say get your butt out there and register to vote, get ready for the primary and visit www.barackobama.com to see if you will come up on the soap box with me, since he is a great candidate.
